The shea nut tree, also called the shea butter tree, karité tree or African butter tree, is found exclusively in the savannahs of West Africa (Sub-Sahel zone).

Shea nuts

The plum-shaped, green fruits of the shea nut tree contain green, edible pulp and a kernel, the actual Shea nut .

After harvesting, the nuts are dried and peeled. Shea butter is extracted by cooking or cold pressing.

Shea butter has excellent cosmetic properties. In Africa it is traditionally used for skin care, especially for dry , flaky or stressed skin areas such as rough elbows or cracked heels, to prevent and reverse stretch marks and for baby care.

Jislaine's untreated and unrefined shea butter is extracted from the nuts of the shea tree. Women's cooperatives in Ghana produce this care secret of the African continent using traditional methods.

Thanks to its high content of unsaturated fatty acids, vitamin E and provitamin A, shea butter provides skin and hair with ideal moisture, regenerates it and makes it smooth and supple. Since shea butter does not contain any water, it is an ideal cold protection for the skin.

Buying shea butter: refined or unrefined?

Jislaine's shea butter is unrefined and 100% natural. This means it has retained its characteristic nutty smell. Unrefined shea butter has a whitish-yellow color and is solid at temperatures below 28°C. After briefly warming it up, it can be easily spread in the palms of the hands and on the skin. Refined shea butter is white. Effective substances have been removed from it and the pleasant, nutty scent disappears.

Our recommendation: Buy unrefined shea butter In addition to the unrefined Shea Butter Gold, we also offer Shea Butter that is made using traditional methods . The nuts of the shea tree are roasted and mashed with water to form a mass. The oil settles on the surface and is skimmed off. As soon as the liquid has cooled, the Shea Butter takes on a consistency like butter.

Warm some shea butter in your hands and rub it into your face and body. Shea butter is best absorbed when applied to damp skin. Apply to hair as a hair treatment before washing and allow to work. After washing, apply a little shea butter to the dry ends as hair oil .

The shea butter should be stored in a cool place, protected from light.
